Simple Steps to Keep Your Skin Hydrated During Cooler Months

It is fall ya’ll and that nasty humidity we detest is behind us for a few months. I know that sounds exciting but, I would be remised if didn’t tell you moderate humidity is great for all skin types. It provides the hydration needed to keep the skin plump and healthy looking, as well as, less oily and irritated.  While you will not be getting humidity in the air; here a few things you can do to ensure you keep your skin hydrated until the humidity returns.

Avoid Using Hot Water When Cleansing Your Skin

There is nothing like a hot shower or bath on a cold day, but you should opt for warm water. Hot water is harsh on skin because it depletes the natural oils causing the skin to become dry and show signs of irritation. Pay close attention to your skin the next time you shower or cleanse your face. If your skin looks red afterwards, that is a good indicator the water is too hot. Turn down the temperature the next time, cleanse with warm water, do a cool rinse and immediately follow up with a moisturizer.

Why You Should Moisturize Immediately After Cleansing Your Face

Plain and simple, applying a moisturizer while the skin is still damp helps to seal in moisture and prevents further moisture loss. This is especially important during the fall/winter months, unlike sweating during the warmer months, we lose water through a more passive manner called transepidermal water loss (TEWL). That’s right, water slowly moves from the dermis to the epidermis and evaporates right before your eyes. Our home, work, and vehicle heating systems can speed up this process. As a result, there are products you should consider adding to your skin care regimen this season.

Products Recommendations for Fall/Winter Skin Care

  • Humidifier- A humidifier is a great way to add moisture back into your air.  This is ideal for home and office spaces and especially at night when you sleep.

  • IMAGE Skincare’s VITAL C hydrating enzyme masque- I absolutely love this dual purpose exfoliating masque so much that I use it year round. This product gently removes dead, dull skin while hydrating and infusing the skin with nourishing vitamins and antioxidant. It leaves the skin with a healthy, dewy glow.

  • IMAGE Skincare’s AGELESS total pure hyaluronic filler- This physician formulated topical filler has a high concentration of hyaluronic acid that noticeably boosts hydration in the skin. This instant hydration plumps and smooths the skin, and smooths the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It is also acts a great primer for your make-up application.
I will leave you with some food for thought; no pun intended! A raisin and a grape are both the same; the major difference is the raisin lacks water. So, be kind to your skin and follow these simple steps. Lastly, schedule a visit  with your esthetician at Brow to Toe Waxing and Skin Care Studio to determine which products or services will have you putting your best face forward this upcoming holiday season.

Simply, LED Light Therapy is a FDA approved treatment that uses different colored lights to cause a specific reaction beneath the top layer of the skin.  Light therapy is a safe, painless, non-invasive approach to skin care that does not require any down time.  This advanced treatment can be received as a stand alone service or combined with a microdermabrasion or chemical peel to enhance results.  On the other hand, it is a great alternative to chemical peels and microdermabrasion during the summer months or for clients who prefer a more gentler yet effective therapy.

I hear this all the time, "It was soooo long and I was too embarrassed to come in like that".   I completely understand; however, the more the better.  Letting hair grow out before getting your first wax can be frustrating if you are  used to shaving or trimming a few times a week.  Unfortunately, wax will not pick up hair that is too short.  At Brow to Toe Waxing and Skin Care Studio,  the esthetician has found the session is less painful and that clients get better results when the hair is 1/3 to 1/2 inch long.   With that being said, leave the trimming to us!

A complimentary trim will be provided with all first time waxing services if needed.  Your esthetician will trim before the waxing service in order to:

  • Increase client comfort
  • Inspect the skin for any contraindications
  • Identify the direction of hair growth
  • Ensure the hair is properly embedded in the wax which prevents breakage just above or below the surface
Thinking of including waxing in your grooming routine?  If so,  give us a call, we can do a short phone consultation to determine an ideal day to schedule your session.  You may also take advantage of our online booking system, but keep in mind you will need to reserve your appointment 3 weeks after your last shave or trim.

I know you are thinking, "Great, another rule!"  I promise the 1:61 rule is one that you will want/need to follow in order to improve your skin condition.  We have all been told to perform our skin care routine twice a day which equals 62 times a month.  So, what is this rule?

1 - the number of times you should visit an esthetician for treatments
61 - the number of times you will be performing your skin care routine at home
