FAQ

What is a facial; why do I need one; and how often should I have one?
A facial is a cleansing, purifying, and beautifying treatment of the face and neck.  Following your treatment skin will likely be softer, smoother, and well hydrated.  In addition to these benefits, facials are a good way for your esthetician to get a good understanding of your skin before suggesting more aggressive treatments.  Monthly facials are recommended; however, your esthetician will make suggestions based on your skin type and condition.

What is a home care regimen and do I need one if I get monthly facials and other skin care treatments?
Not having a home care regimen is the equivalent to working out once a month with a personal trainer and doing nothing the other 29 days.  The purpose of the home care regimen is to help you maintain the results of the treatments you receive from your esthetician.  A basic home care regimen consist of products that cleanse, tone, moisturize and protect the skin from the sun.  Your esthetician will suggest a regimen of professional strength products that meet your specific skin care needs, goals, and lifestyle.

What should I expect during and after a chemical peel?
One or more chemical mixtures will be applied; you may experience a tingling, burning or hot sensation which is normal.  Most peels remain on the skin only a few minutes, and are closely watched by the esthetician.  After the peel, the skin will be pink to red, and look shiny and tight.  The skin may begin to flake or peel in 2–3 days after the treatment and may last up to seven days.   Sun-damaged areas of your skin will appear darker at first and then will lighten; this is normal.   It is vital to apply sunscreen of SFP 30 and stay out of the sun for a minimum of 48 hours, as your skin will be very sensitive to UV rays and could be damaged by sun exposure.  Your esthetician will provide you with after care instructions.  For maximum results, a series of peels is usually recommended, and may be necessary for treating challenging issues.

What should I expect during and after a microdermabrasion treatment?
Your esthetician will use a wand with crushed diamonds to treat the skin.  The treatment is pain free and is often compared to being licked by a cat on the face.  Your skin will look glowing and fresh almost immediately after the treatment.  Some more aggressive treatments may cause the skin to look slightly pink and tender for a few hours afterward. Because fresh skin has been newly exposed, it is important to apply sunscreen and to avoid direct sunlight and tanning booths following your session. Also, avoid products containing harsh chemicals, dyes, or perfumes until the skin has fully healed.  Your esthetician will provide you with after care instructions.

What should I do before and after my waxing session?
  • Please do not shave or trim 3-4 weeks prior to your waxing service because the wax may not adhere strong enough to pull out hair that is shorter than 1/2".
  • Take a pain reliever/anti-inflammatory about 30 prior to the appointment to decrease discomfort and inflammation.
  • Avoid consuming alcohol beforehand; it dehydrates the skin making it more sensitive.
After the treatment, it is important that you exfoliate area treated and follow the after care instructions provided by your esthetician.
