How to Find the Best Lash Artist

Eyelash extensions are a semi-permanent and instant means to achieve beautiful long, thick, and dark lashes. This treatment is becoming increasingly popular and is offered at spas, salons and even nail shops. In fact, it is the most requested service at Brow to Toe Waxing and Skin Care studio. We are considered the go to place for lash extensions and welcome the opportunity to enhance your natural beauty. If you are in the business for lash extensions, there a few things you must verify when researching establishments. We only get one set of eyes and need to make sure they are in good hands!

Is the Lash Extensionist Certified?

Licensed cosmetologists and estheticians, in North Carolina, are not required to have a separate certification to provide lash extension services. When I attended esthetics school, we were taught and required to practice strip and cluster lashes but did not receive training on the application of eyelash extensions. While the end result for all three services may look similar, the application, theory, and difficulty levels are night and day.

I researched a few companies that provide lash extension training and supplies. I decided to receive my training via NovaLASH due to the great product reviews, natural-looking extensions, ongoing support, and the fact it is a national brand. During the NovaLASH certification courses, I learned principles and application techniques to beautifully enhance lashes without compromising the condition of your natural lashes. That is just the beginning, how long your extensionist has been doing extensions is the next important factor.

How Long Has the Extensionist Been Doing Lash Extensions?

Your extensionist may have the best training in the world, but it is a skill that is developed over time. The application of lash extensions is tedious, requires great hand and eye coordination, and involves the use of the non-dominant hand. Most extensionists would agree it takes about six months to a year of consistent lashing to feel comfortable with the process. For example, I have been lashing for almost three years and it took me approximately 4hrs to apply 60 extensions per eye when I started in 2015. Fast forward to today, I apply twice as many extensions in less than half the time.

What Brand of Lash Extension Products Does the Extensionist Use?

There are many lash companies and online shopping sites that supply products to lash extensionist. Top national brands like NovaLASH only sell their products to extensionist certified through their company. Additionally, NovaLASH’s adhesive is a medical-grade, physician-developed formula that has the strongest hold available for eyelash extensions on the market today. Going with an extensionist who uses a national brand is ideal due to the consistency in training, products, and ideal for those who live a transient lifestyle.

Read Reviews, Ask Around, and Look at Photos

Word of mouth and reviews are ideal avenues to determine if your extensionist provides quality service. Bad news travels fast and people are more likely to share bad experiences. Read the reviews from our satisfied clients.

… .best kept secret for amazing eyelashes in two, maybe three counties. Trust me, I have been to the "best" supposedly... till I came here. Nakia is attentive to detail and my lashes look natural yet - like the most beautiful "natural" lashes you have seen. I got compliments all the time on how "lucky" I am to be born with such pretty lashes. …lashes REALLY DO stay on for a solid 4 weeks. This is not a joke. Think about how much money you will save from going every 2.5-3 weeks to FOUR!

Had volume lashes done by Nakia. She does an amazing job, my lashes still looked like they had just been done 4 weeks later!

Compare close-up photos. When looking at photos look for the following:

  • Are natural hairs/extensions clumped together

  • Can you see the glue (if you can see the glue, they used too much)

  • Are extensions applied to the inside and outside corners- It is recommended to skip the first few inside hairs or the outside corner hairs that are unruly; however, it shouldn’t be obvious.

  • Overall design – Is there flow to the design?

  • Number of extensions applied – depending on where you go, a full set can be anywhere from 60-120 extensions.
