It is fall ya’ll and that nasty humidity we detest is behind us for a few months. I know that sounds exciting but, I would be remised if didn’t tell you moderate humidity is great for all skin types. It provides the hydration needed to keep the skin plump and healthy looking, as well as, less oily and irritated. While you will not be getting humidity in the air; here a few things you can do to ensure you keep your skin hydrated until the humidity returns.

  1. Avoid Using Hot Water When Cleansing Your Skin

There is nothing like a hot shower or bath on a cold day, but you should opt for warm water. Hot water is harsh on skin because it depletes the natural oils causing the skin to become dry and show signs of irritation. Pay close attention to your skin the next time you shower or cleanse your face. If your skin looks red afterwards, that is a good indicator the water is too hot. Turn down the temperature the next time, cleanse with warm water, do a cool rinse and immediately follow up with a moisturizer.

2. Why You Should Moisturize Immediately After Cleansing Your Face

Plain and simple, applying a moisturizer while the skin is still damp helps to seal in moisture and prevents further moisture loss. This is especially important during the fall/winter months, unlike sweating during the warmer months, we lose water through a more passive manner called transepidermal water loss (TEWL). That’s right, water slowly moves from the dermis to the epidermis and evaporates right before your eyes. Our home, work, and vehicle heating systems can speed up this process. As a result, there are products you should consider adding to your skin care regimen this season.

3. Products Recommendations for Fall/Winter Skin Care
